It’s #WorldVeganDay, so we decided to kick off with Part 1 of Vegan Celebs! And many more parts to come, if we want to cover all the celebs who are moving over to the green side!
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
Is he vegan, is he not? It’s been reported this week that it’s looking very likely that Benedict Cumberbatch is now vegan! Rumours are swirling that, this month his wife said the exciting words to restaurant waiting staff: “my husband is vegan”.
Twitter user @KatePow3ll with the big exposé:
He was also spotted at the Vegan Festival in New York at the beginning of October. Interesting news, indeed. We guess we’ll just have to wait for confirmation from Sherlock himself…
2. Lewis Hamilton
And, from here on, we have our 100% definite confirmed Vegans! Lewis Hamilton announced he was going vegan this September after watching What The Health: the Netflix “health film that Health Organizations don’t want you to see.” His journey had begun by cutting out red meat and fish over the past couple of years, after becoming aware of his carbon footprint, and has now become completely vegan via his announcement on Snapchat!
Although some criticised Hamilton’s choice and questioned whether his new lifestyle would negatively affect his performance, he’s proven them wrong by becoming the F1 World Champion. He credits veganism for his success, stating:
[it’s] the best I have ever felt, physically and mentally.
3. Venus Williams
That’s right. One of the best tennis players in the world is vegan! Venus Williams made the transition to raw veganism to help fight her autoimmune disease, Sjögren’s syndrome.
Since this amazing lifestyle change, Venus claims being raw vegan has “changed everything” for her, allowing her get back on the pitch. Yes, Venus!
4. Serena Williams
It seems that veganism is running in the family! Another one of the world’s best tennis players, Serena Williams, is vegan!
Not one to miss out on a good thing, adopting a vegan lifestyle in solidarity with her sister, Serena certainly has no problems on the tennis pitch after winning the US Open three times since going vegan in 2012. Could it be – she’s getting enough protein?
5. Peter Dinklage
Peter, Peter Dinklage, Peter Dinklage – yes, we know you were singing that in the Game of Thrones theme tune. Our favourite Lannister is vegan!
Dinklage went vegetarian as a teenager and has been vegan since 2014. He’s spoken publicly as an animal right’s advocate many times, most famously for PETA. And don’t worry, whilst shooting food scenes for Game of Thrones, Peter always ate fake meats or tofu. Phew!
